Ethical issues on using educational
technology
Privacy/confidentiality
Internet
users consider privacy (security) to be one of the important issues. The usage
of internet has grown explosively as fast internet connections get cheaper.
Spamming/Hacking
Sending a
large number of files through the network and causing the system to crash is
“Spamming”,
is an abuse of information technology.
Property/Copyright
Copyright
is an important issue since today’s music and movie companies fight for their copyrights. However, the
internet provides many websites to users to access these companies’ products illegally.
Netiquette
One of
the main purposes of the internet is to serve as a communication tool. All chat rooms provide easy and
cheap access to find friends or just to post ideas about anything.
Yes we real do need to encourage education
technology in our school but we have to consider ethical issues this is due to
the fact that technology such as internet
and the use of computer can cause student to turn their mind in other matters
which are not useful in their education career . Hereunder are the different
benefits on using technology as follows….
An important aim in technology education is
to develop positive attitudes towards their peers and understanding the value
of working with others.
Students in the 21st Century
classroom learn critical thinking and workplace skills that will prepare them
well for their future.
It opens up the whole world as a
source of inspiration and education. Students can use computer technology to
conduct experiments that would be impossible to try out within the constraints
of a standard science classroom.
Truly, the benefits of technology in
education reach across all subjects and areas of interest. A current events
teacher can pull up video of the day's top news events to foster classroom
discussion. A history teacher can make in a smart classroom.
It gives an access to information. Many
years ago, particularly before the Internet was invented, people have to go to
libraries or buy books just to have the information.
Technology has definitely become a major
influence in how people live. Decades ago, we use to do things manually. As
time passed by, we invent tools that can help use accomplish task more quickly
and efficiently.
It helps in protecting the environment.
We have always believed that technology can
have a positive impact on students if used properly. There are hardly any
discipline problems and all of the children are engaged and focused on their
work. If only our teachers had more computers available to them in their
classrooms, what an impact that would have on the students learning.
All in all there are many ways that
education technology can benefit our students. All it takes is a teacher's
desire to learn how technology can be used to enhance their teaching and be
open to new ideas. Therefore we believe
that technology has a positive impact on everyone- students as well as
teachers- and creates an exciting and challenging atmosphere in any school
environment.
Qn.
With all ethical issues going on using educational technology do we real
need to encourage it in schools?
